In September 2024, Janna Kennedy and I were tasked with the redesign of a historical residential building in London Ontario. The home was being used as student housing, and needed to be transformed into a commercial office space targeted towards children that needed speech therapy. The challenge was creating an environment that felt both professional and calming, ensuring the design didn’t overwhelm the children receiving therapy. We carefully planned the layout to accommodate enough private rooms while maintaining a warm, approachable atmosphere. A Snoezelen Room was also integrated into the space. One of the biggest challenges was converting the residential bathrooms into semi-accessible commercial restrooms, balancing functionality with existing structural constraints. The result? A space that feels safe, supportive, and perfectly suited for its new purpose.
